Choosing a Surveyor

Save time and money by being prepared for the survey.

 

Have all papers ready. Written authorization from the owner may be needed to board and / or dismantle any part of the vessel. 

Make sure the boat is clean and shipshape ready for inspection - clean lockers and cabin areas of miscellaneous gear.

Be prepared to open areas that need to be accessed by the surveyor such as interior ceilings, headliners etc..This should be completed by qualified personnel.

If bottom inspection or sea trial is applicable arrangements need to be made with the marina and a certified captain.

You should be provided with a professionally prepared report that is acceptable to your bank or insurance company. Understand what the survey involves, what standards are being used and how long it will take to better understand the cost committment. Be aware that the surveyor reports the conditions in accessible areas of the vessel as they existed at the time of the inspection.

 

Once you retain a Surveyor, he or she works only for you and reports to no one else.  The Surveyor is there to protect your interests!
